Zach Lisabeth is a Los Angeles-based speculative fiction author and Weirdo. He was born on Long Island and took a circuitous route west by way of Brooklyn, NY, Burlington, VT and Chicago, IL. He is a graduate of the 2014 Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers Workshop at UCSD, an experience he credits with exacerbating his Weirdness. His work has appeared or is forthcoming in Fantasy Scroll Magazine, Gaia: Shadow & Breath vol. 2 (Pantheon Press), Burningword Literary Journal and the anthology RealLies (The Zharmae Publishing Press).
After studying classics, rhetoric, theatre, philosophy, business institutions and English, Zach graduated from Northwestern University in 2006 with a BS in Communications Studies and a transcript that reads like a choose your own adventure novel. He left Chicago immediately after graduation and never looked back, relocating to Brooklyn where his writing career began in earnest.
In August of 2010, Zach joined Americorps, serving with alternative educator Matt Schlein’s Willowell Foundation through the Vermont Youth Development Corps. During his term of service, Zach regularly assisted with Matt’s outdoor high school, the Walden Project, set on 200+ acres of preserved land in bucolic Monkton, VT. As a service-member, he was supposed to assist with writing instruction during the class’ weekly workshop in Burlington, VT, but he admittedly learned far more than he taught. It was the Walden approach to place-based education and Matt’s Thoreau-inspired pedagogy that Zach credits with solidifying his unique voice and approach to fiction.
Zach currently lives in the Echo Park neighborhood of Los Angeles with his partner Liz and zero pets. For regular updates, follow him on Twitter @zachlisabeth, Facebook and Goodreads or just stay right here on his official site. How about that? You’re already doing it right.
